The village of Barovia is the saddest place in the land, its residences so terrified of Strahd that they rarely venture from their homes. For this reason, most of the other residents of the valley avoid it. The Tser PoolsДownriver from the Tser Falls, the Tser Pools are a popular location for the Vistani to camp. The town lies beyond the sight of Castle Ravenloft and doesnвЂ™t, at first blush, seem as depressed (or oppressed) as the village of Barovia. Located close to the shores of Lake Zarovich, the town of Vallaki seems like a safe haven against the evils of the Svalich Woods, if not Strahd himself. A few isolated farms and noble estates dot the countryside as well. All told, around 1,200 people live under the rule of the Duke of Daggerford, most of them in the twenty or so tiny farming hamlets scattered within a dayвЂ™s walk of the town proper. Situated on the flood plains of the Delimbiyr River (also called the Shining River) and built against the side of a low hill, Daggerford is the largest stop on the High Road between the cities of Waterdeep and BaldurвЂ™s Gate, making it key to trade along the Sword Coast despite its relatively small size. The Town of DaggerfordДaggerford is a small, walled town dominated by the keep of the local duke. Some day the location is haunted by the criminals whose lives ended hanging at the end of a hangmanвЂ™s noose. Where the roads cross, there sits an old gallows and a small plot of graves beside the road. Once a grain mill that served Vallaki, this slouching windmill was home to three night hags until it burnt down by the manifestation of DespairвЂ™s draconic heritage. This card will lead you to him!
